Turnover rate
The time it takes a pool's pump and filter to circulate a volume of water equal to the entire pool, the baseline measure of how well a pool filters itself.
Turnover rate is how long it takes the circulation system to push a volume of water equal to the pool's total volume through the filter once. Residential pools typically aim for a full turnover in 8 to 12 hours, meaning the pump needs to run roughly a third to half of each day (spread across daylight hours when possible) to keep up with normal bather load and debris. A pump that's undersized, run too few hours, or partially clogged will extend turnover time well beyond that window, which shows up as cloudier water and faster chlorine demand even when dosing looks correct on paper.
