Editorial Policy
Skimmer publishes pool-care guides, calculators, and reference tables. Because pool chemistry is health-adjacent, we hold this content to a higher standard than typical marketing copy. This page explains how we work.
Who writes this
Our guides are written and maintained by the Skimmer Editorial Team, the people who build the Skimmer app. We are pool owners and software builders. We do not sell chemicals, hardware, or pool service, so our guidance has no product to push beyond the app itself.
How we source claims
- Dosing amounts, target ranges, and safety guidance are drawn from published, checkable references: public-health agencies (the CDC's Model Aquatic Health Code and Healthy Swimming program), recognized industry standards (ANSI/APSP/ICC), and manufacturer documentation.
- When a page states a specific figure or safety rule, we cite the source on that page so you can verify it yourself. See our methodology for how the calculator math is derived.
- We do not cite competitors' blog posts or content farms as authorities, and we do not add citations a page does not genuinely rely on.
Accuracy, corrections, and freshness
- Evergreen guides carry a visible publish date and an "Updated" badge when revised.
- If you find an error, email hello@skimmerpoolcare.com. We correct confirmed mistakes and update the revision date.
- We do not publish fabricated author credentials, fake reviews, or made-up star ratings. Skimmer carries no aggregate rating on this site until it reflects real App Store reviews.
Where we tell you to stop and call a professional
Some situations are not an app's job: suspected electrical faults, gas heater work, structural damage, or a water-chemistry problem you cannot resolve with normal dosing. Our guides flag these and point you to a licensed professional rather than pretending an app replaces one. Nothing on this site is a substitute for professional or medical advice.
Independence
Skimmer is not affiliated with any pool manufacturer, chemical brand, or service provider. We do not accept payment to feature or rank products. Comparison pages describe genuine, checkable feature differences, not paid placements.
